Sports Card Forum

Just discovered this forum the other day while looking for a place to trade cards. I created an account and once I get set up in TN i'll be moving the doubles over to their marketplace. In the meantime I'll be working on digging the cards out of the room when I have some time tonight and get them set up in inventory. The want/trade lists will also be updated once I get set up in TN.

Donations

Put a request out on my twitter that I'm looking for cards to be donated to expand the collection as I really would like this to be a community project instead of one person's conquest but most are either like me and want to hold on to whatever cards they do have in case the market ever really does turn around, are trying to introduce baseball cards to the next generation of collectors, or see that there are still collectors out there and want to milk em for all they have. Now, I'm not saying I want your Honus Wagner or anything like that but I would like to be able to complete the sets I do have.

Right now the collection is 1970s to present, minor and major league baseball. Because this is a collection for the sake of collecting, it won't be sold for any reason(so even if I somehow managed to get ahold of a Honus Wagner, I'd never sell it). I've been doing this since 1989 and for me it's completing the collections and someday being able to have every single baseball card in existance. Many I've spoken to say it's a worth of money and that I'm silly for even collecting for the sake of collecting but others do it with Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, vehicles, etc... This is also one of the reasons why I created a blogger account and set up these pages so I could share with the world what's in the collection and others could add to it to expand it. I usually receive cards from relatives or friends but they don't collect anymore so no one saves anything for me anymore.

Regarding this move to TN. Back in February I lost my job as a Wal-Mart employee following back pains from a previous back injury that never corrected itself which has put financial strain on my wife who's on SSI. I'm not asking for a pity party, I'm just stating what the move to TN is about since I posted a brief message about it the other day. The wife and I will be moving in with some friends and I have some family in that area of TN so that will help also. At my parents place is a box of 80s cards. Their all 80s and they cover alot of companies, players, etc..

This move to TN will allow me to have dedicated space for the cards and my eventual plans is to either build or purchase a card catalog cabinet so that each drawer can hold a complete 792-card collection. I'll also eventual double-sleeve all the cards I have(soft sleeve inside a hard sleeve) to make handling easier. I have all these ideas in my head of what to do but their unachievable for some reason. Then again I also wish I had more of a following on here but I understand why - baseball cards will never be able to compete in the market when you have umpteen pokemon, yu-gi-oh, and magic cards everywhere. I'd go football or basketball but those are sports I could never get into thus I would never collect their cards.

Sorry for ranting, was'nt what I was planning on for this post but there it is.

Update and Move

Hello everyone, I'm still here and so is the collection. It's packed away pending a move to TN in August as my dad's getting up there in age and hasn't been feeling well. He hasn't had a heart attack or stroke or anything, but I'm told he's come close a few times. With that in mind, once I get everything set up down there I'll get the lists updated as I've received some cards from Listia that haven't made it into the collection. Also parents have the rest of my 60/70/80s cards so there's the possibility of completing more sets now as that's what I'm all about: Completing the sets. I know there's a bunch of them but it's been the only tie to my childhood that hasn't been bought out or demolished.

Also for some off the wall reason if anyone has an XBox 360 and needs some parts like the case, faceplate, or CD Drive let me know and I can trade them for cards as I have some 360s still out that the motherboards are trashed on. I also still have that pack of hockey cards to trade if anyone wants them to trade for cards and have a pack of football cards somewhere I can trade. I'd attempt to trade the wife's collection of Pokemon cards but that would be my undoing.

Haloween Trade

Haloween's getting closer I can feel it in my arthritic bones and no one's moved on that pack of O-Pee-Chee Hockey pack so I'm calling it out. I'm willing to trade that hockey pack of cards plus any number of other cards on my trace list to complete my 1955 Bowman set. Was in a local dollar store yesterday and they had a whole box of 1988 Topps sitting there. I would've bought the whole lot but didn't have the money so I got 4 packs for 50 cents each. Hope everyone has a happy and safe Halloween, hopefully by then all the lists will be updated.

Some new stuff

Got some new stuff in the past week - let's start of with Topps' Qubi's. Received 2 from Beckett from their Wednesday night Chattin Up! on Facebook. Was in Wal-Mart and had some left over money so whil I bought my wife a pack of pokemon cards, she surprised me with 2 boxes of 2013 Topps. Still trying to put together a second complete set of 1987 Topps and whatever's left over will be counted as extras and will be up for open sale/trading. Here are the pics of the Qubi's, while the cards go into the collection.

Wife was feeling ok today so she helped me go through the rest of the 1987 Topps cards and omg are there alot of doubles o.O I still have a bit to filter to possibly complete a 2nd set but it doesn't look like there's 3 there like I thought. Also attended some thing on facebook put on by Beckett Media by their editor Chris Olds last Wednesday and won a tri-pack of 2013 O-Pee-Chee Hockey cards and since I don't collect hockey, I'll trade em for some 60s Topps or 50s Bowman(had these listed on Listia and no one bit). There's another one tonight at 9:30pm EST and every Wednesday at 9:30pm EST(hopefully I'll score some baseball cards this time). Wife came up with an idea on housing all my cards so their in their place and don't look like their all over the place. A card catalog type setup. It'll look clean and like they belong in the room rather some boxes over here or there that look messy. Using the free 3d program Sketchup, I went about building what I thought the thing should look like. First thing that popped into my head was the card catalogs from the New York City Library as seen in the opening scenes of Ghostbusters, so I went about and drew me a display that's 10 drawers heigh, 6 drawers wide, and sits on a thirty inch heigh stand(typical desk height).

As you can see from the images, the thing's going to be huge! The drawers are pull-out and are long enough to hold 792 cards in toploaders. Now to get the darn thing built lol.

Just got this set of 6 Mets cards in from a Listia bid - they range in years from 2002 to 2006 and look to all be Bowman. Into the collection they go.
